You open the devilish box to discover... nothing. A few crumbs here and there. But effectively, nothing.

CANNOT AN ELDRITCH TERROR DELIGHT IN A MERE SNACK? WHAT IS THIS PLANE OF EXISTENCE COMING TO.

I REQUIRE A LIBATION, NO, A LEGENDARY ELIXIR. I shall tell you my specifications, and if you can obtain the appropriate elixir, your debt shall be repaid.

  • I. I am a primordial being and deserve only the best. It must be golden.
  • II. I am not addicted to elixir, but I do not require the weakest drink. I also do not require the strongest drink. Temperance is key.
  • III. I care not for vulgar or unbecoming elixirs.
  • IV. I do not need an elixir that is out of season.
Hint 1

It looks like you'll need outside information. Maybe you can find a menu or list of elixirs around Hex & Co?

Hint 2

Look for the "Legendary Elixirs" poster.

Hint 3

Each of the four clues given by Death will help you rule out at least 2 of the elixirs on the poster.

Hint 4

For Clue I, remove any elixir that doesn't mention gold: golden ale, gold medal, golden myth, etc.

Hint 5

Clue I rules out 2 (Little Red Riding Hood), 5 (Jack & the Beanstalk), and 7 (Sleeping Beauty).

Hint 6

For Clue II, eliminate the elixirs with the highest and lowest ABV %.

Hint 7

Clue II rules out 3 (The Gold-Children; lowest ABV) and 4 (Rumpelstiltskin, highest ABV).

Hint 8

For Clue III, eliminate any elixir that has an impolite subject matter (on the beer bottle itself), or describes the flavor as "unbecoming" or "vulgar".

Hint 9

Clue III rules out 6 (The Frog Prince, "unbecoming"), 8 (The Emperor's New Clothes, because there's a naked man), and 9 (King Midas, "vulgar").

Hint 10

For Clue IV, eliminate any beer that is tied to a specific time of year (that isn't the summer).

Hint 11

Clue IV rules out 1 (Hansel & Gretel, meant for October/fall), 10 (Cinderella; pumpkin spice is also meant for fall), and 11 (Rapunzel, meant as a winter ale).

Hint 12 (Solution)

The Golden Fleece is the correct elixir!
